Trail Running in Filzmoos: Where Every Step Takes You Closer to the Mountains

When the first rays of sun move across the Dachstein and the Bischofsmütze, a special time begins in Filzmoos for runners. Narrow paths wind across alpine meadows, through open mountain forests and up to scenic heights, exactly the rhythm trail runners come looking for.

The mountain village in Austria's Salzburg region has grown into one of the most exciting trail running areas in the Alps. Permanent trails at various difficulty levels run through varied terrain between roughly 1,000 and 2,000 metres above sea level, sometimes over gentle forest paths, sometimes along alpine ridges with sweeping views across the Salzburg mountains.

Filzmooser Gipfelroas: 20 June 2026

A particular highlight of summer is the Filzmooser Gipfelroas on 20 June 2026. The mountain marathon covers 42.2 kilometres and around 3,200 metres of elevation gain, with the route shaped by four summits: Rossbrand, Gerzkopf, Sulzenschneid and Rettenstein. The race starts early in the morning at the village square, and it's deliberately run without time pressure or competitive stress. The Gipfelroas sees itself as a community run for anyone who wants to experience the mountains on foot.

Trail Running Camp "Trail à la carte": 1 to 5 July 2026

Just a few days later comes the trail running camp. Together with experienced coaches, participants explore the finest trails around Filzmoos, train technique and endurance, and experience the mountains from a new perspective. New this year: alpine yoga, a relaxing session out in nature that brings body and mind back into balance after intense days on the trails.

Filzmoos combines athletic challenge with the calm of the mountains. Anyone who runs here discovers not just spectacular trails, but a sense of freedom that stays with you long after.
