The Silberkammer: Splendour and Elegance of the Habsburgs

Within the Vienna Hofburg, the Silberkammer displays one of the most extensive surviving collections of imperial tableware in Europe. Assembled over centuries, the collection includes precious silver, gilded ceremonial vessels and fine porcelain once used at court festivities.

Dining Like the Imperial Court

Among the highlights are elaborately designed table centrepieces with floral decoration, delicate figures and gilded details, once arranged with great splendour for special occasions. The exhibition vividly conveys the importance of representation and ceremony at the Viennese court.

Between Kitchen and Ceremony

Alongside the table silver, the Silberkammer also offers a look at the imperial court kitchen and the logistical challenges of large ceremonial banquets. The tour pairs well with a visit to the Sisi Museum and the Imperial Apartments, as all three collections share the same entrance in the Hofburg.
