Schloss Mirabell: A Jewel of Baroque Architecture in Salzburg

On the right bank of the Salzach, north of Salzburg's old town, stands Schloss Mirabell, built in 1606 by Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau for his mistress Salome Alt. Originally known as Altenau, the palace took on its current baroque character after several rounds of renovation.

The Angel Staircase and Marble Hall

Inside, the famous Angel Staircase, decorated with putti by Georg Raphael Donner, ranks among the finest works of Austrian baroque sculpture. The Marble Hall, today a popular wedding venue, is also known for its excellent acoustics and regularly hosts concerts.

The Mirabell Gardens in Front

In front of the palace stretch the world famous Mirabell Gardens, with flower beds and statues framing a classic view of Hohensalzburg Fortress. Schloss Mirabell is within walking distance of Salzburg's main train station.
