Pfänder: Bregenz's Local Mountain With Views of Four Countries

Rising directly above Bregenz, Pfänder is the city's local mountain and one of the most rewarding viewpoints on Lake Constance. In just a few minutes, the Pfänder cable car carries visitors from the city to the 1,064-meter summit, where a panorama across four countries unfolds.

The Pfänder Cable Car Since 1927

Since 1927, the Pfänder cable car has connected the valley station in Bregenz with the summit, originally conceived as a cog railway before taking its current form as a cable car in the same year. The ride takes only about six minutes and climbs nearly 600 meters, a quick route to one of the region's best views.

Views of Four Countries

On clear days, the view from Pfänder stretches across the entire Lake Constance basin to Germany, into Switzerland, and to Liechtenstein, along with the peaks of the Vorarlberg and Appenzell Alps. This breadth makes Pfänder one of the few places where four countries can be surveyed from a single point.

Wildlife Park and Trails at the Summit

At the top, visitors find not only the viewing platform but also the Pfänder alpine wildlife park, home to native animals such as ibex and marmots, along with a network of trails leading to neighboring peaks like the Gebhardsberg route.
