The Naschmarkt: Vienna's Culinary Heart

Between Kettenbrückengasse and Karlsplatz, the Naschmarkt stretches for roughly 1.5 kilometres as Vienna's largest and best known market. Its roots reach back to the 16th century, when dairy products and wooden barrels, known as "Aschen", were traded here, giving rise to the market's name.

A Market of the World

Today hundreds of stalls and eateries line the market, offering fruit, vegetables, spices, fish, cheese and international specialities ranging from the Levant to the Far East. This mix of traditional market character and multicultural cuisine makes the Naschmarkt one of Vienna's liveliest spots.

A Flea Market on Weekends

On Saturdays, one of Vienna's largest flea markets joins the western end of the Naschmarkt, a popular destination for collectors and bargain hunters. The market is easily reached via the U4 subway line to Kettenbrückengasse or U1/U2/U4 to Karlsplatz.
