Leopold Museum: A Highlight of Vienna's Art Scene

In Vienna's MuseumsQuartier, the Leopold Museum holds one of the most significant collections of Austrian art from the 19th and 20th centuries. Founded on the private collection of Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold, the museum's more than 8,000 works offer a comprehensive view of the Viennese Modernism era.

The World's Largest Schiele Collection

The centrepiece is more than 220 works by Egon Schiele, including iconic pieces such as "Self-Portrait with Chinese Lantern Fruit" and "The Embrace". The collection also includes major works by Gustav Klimt, among them "Death and Life", along with pieces by Oskar Kokoschka, Richard Gerstl and Koloman Moser.

Three Floors of Viennese Modernism

The permanent exhibition "Vienna 1900" spans three floors of the museum, showing paintings and sculptures alongside furniture and objects from the Wiener Werkstätte that capture the turn of the century pursuit of the total work of art. The museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm, closed on Tuesdays from September to June.
