Hofburg Innsbruck: A Royal Experience in Tyrol

In the heart of Innsbruck's old town stands the Hofburg, one of Austria's three most significant imperial residences alongside the Vienna Hofburg and Schönbrunn Palace. Originally built in the 15th century under Archduke Sigmund, the building took on its current appearance mainly under Empress Maria Theresia in the 18th century.

Rococo Splendour in the Giant's Hall

At the heart of the interior is the Riesensaal, a magnificent rococo ceremonial hall with ceiling frescoes and portraits of the Habsburg family. The elaborate stucco work and gilded details give a vivid sense of 18th century courtly representation.

Between Mountains and Baroque

From outside, the Hofburg stands out for its clean, pale facade topped with a distinctive green dome, set strikingly against the backdrop of Innsbruck's mountains. The residence sits centrally in the old town, just steps from the Golden Roof.
