The Gloriette: An Architectural Jewel in Schönbrunn Park

On the highest point of Schönbrunn Palace Park, reserved for a sweeping view over Vienna, stands the Gloriette. Built in 1775 as a hall of fame for Maria Theresia, the colonnaded structure symbolically crowns the end of the park's long central axis and ranks among its most photographed sights.

Built From the Stones of a Ruined Palace

Building material from the already decaying Neugebäude palace ruin was reused in the Gloriette's construction, a common practice of the time that lends the structure extra historical depth. Its rows of arches and central eagle make it a striking landmark visible from nearly every point in the park.

Vienna's Finest View

From the Gloriette's upper walkway, the view stretches across the palace park and Vienna's city centre all the way to the Vienna Woods. A café inside invites visitors to rest before heading back through Schönbrunn's expansive gardens.
