Circus and Clown Museum: Vienna's Most Colourful Little Museum

On Ilgplatz in Vienna's second district, the Circus and Clown Museum Vienna stands out even from the outside, its shop windows painted with lively circus scenes. Across 400 square metres, the small museum traces the history of domestic and international performers, clowns, magicians and showpeople.

Stories From the Ring

On display are historical costumes, props and memorabilia that tell the stories of circus history's great names. The museum is run on a volunteer basis by a circus family, and their passion comes through in how closely Vienna's circus tradition is woven into the city's cultural history.

A Free Family Outing

Admission is free, and the museum is open Sundays from 10am to 1pm. It is easily reached via the U2 subway line to Messe Prater station, making it easy to pair a visit with a trip to the nearby Prater.
